Frequently Asked Questions For WoodGuard™ Products
The Vinyl Fence Material Alternative

How does Woodguard™ rate against hollow PVC or vinyl fencing?

Hollow PVC loses its strength each year it is exposed to the elements. Conventional warranties only cover the appearance of the fence, not the strength. In cold weather and over time, PVC becomes brittle and weakens. PVC cannot be mechanically fastened to the posts due to the expansion and contraction of PVC in hot and cold temperatures. The strength of a fence is in the attachment of the rails to the post. Woodguard™ is much easier to install because it saws and nails just like conventional lumber. Woodguard™ is a perfect alternative to vinyl fencing and hollow PVC fencing.

Woodguard™ is treated. Is this treatment harmful?

No. All Woodguard™ structural lumber components are treated against termites and dry rot by our patent-pending process using Timbor™, a wood treatment product manufactured exclusively by US Borax Corporation®, one of the largest US chemical companies. The wood receives the Timbor™ treatment and then goes through the coating process which seals it permanently. Timbor™does not contain any heavy metals or arsenic, is environmentally safe, and harmless to humans, pets, and livestock.

Can I use Woodguard™ to build a patio cover?

Of course. Woodguard™ is structural and can be used just like wood. Woodguard™ carries structural lumber posts up to 4 X 6 X 16 for supportuing your patio cover. Also, 2 X 2 X 16s make an excellent warp-free alternative to repainting those old, weathered 2 X 2s currently covering your patio. Patio ideas and plans can be found in our Project Ideas section.

Will Woodguard™ work well with maintenance-free lattice?

You bet. In fact, Woodguard™ is the best product used with maintenance-free lattice for a 100% maintenance-free enclosure. Woodguard™ also works well for pool heater and air conditioner enclosures.

Can I order extra hardware directly from Woodguard™?

Yes. Use our easy-to-follow order form (Click Here) for this new online feature.

I cannot find a Woodguard™ distributor near me. Can I order directly?

Yes. Woodguard™ can be ordered directly. Keep in mind, however, that Woodguard™ is heavy lumber and shipping small quantities across the country can cost thousands of dollars. We are currently setting up distributors around the country. If you or someone you know is interested in stocking and distributing Woodguard in your area, give us a call!

How is Woodguard™ made?

Woodguard™starts with the finest lumber treated with Timbor™. Unlike common pressure treated lumber which uses cyanide and arsenic, Timbor™is harmless. Next, the treated lumber is coated with a thick, opaque polyethylene skin. This protects the lumber against weathering, rotting, and discoloring. Once the skin is applied, Woodguard™ is ready to build with. Simply choose your color and get to work.

Who uses Woodguard™?

Anyone looking to build a structural product for use outdoors can benefit from Woodguard™. Any project from decks and patio covers to miles or maintenance-free fencing, Woodguard™ will work like and outlast painted wood. The average homeowner, with a limited budget, will often choose to spend a little now and end up paying a lot more later. Woodguard™ on the other hand, is the alternate, competitively priced, solution for home and property owners to build their projects with a maintenance free structural product. Polyethylene treated lumber will last for a lifetime.

Are using nails, screw or bolts into the coating harmful?

Our plastic seals around all fastener and our Timbor Treatment protects the wood. You should never let the head of the fastener penetrate under the coating as this will void the warranty. Make sure the head of the fastener snugs tightly against the coating and your installation will be perfect. On bolts you should always use washers on both ends and never counter sink the head of the bolt.
